If you’re looking for a Cincinnati newborn and maternity photographer, one of the most common questions you probably have is about timing. When should we schedule our newborn session? Timing plays a pretty big role in creating relaxed, beautiful images that truly reflect this unfairly brief season.
So let’s talk about about getting everything booked!

When to Book Your Newborn Session
I always recommend booking your newborn session as early as possible! If you’re due in the fall, it’s especially important to grab a spot sooner rather than later since my calendar fills up with outdoor sessions that time of year.
If you’re someone who would love having some time to pay off your session, booking early is the way to go. We can set up an easy payment plan so you can chip away at it over time without feeling stressed about it.
Booking early helps cross another thing off your forever long to-do list before baby arrives!
When to Schedule Your Newborn Session
I tentatively schedule my newborn sessions within the first month after your due date. That way, you’re on my calendar with room to adjust the date if needed.
I would say the majority of families prefer to schedule their session around that two week mark.
During those first 10-14 days:
That said, there is absolutely no such thing as scheduling too late within that first month. Whether your baby is 8 days old or 4 weeks old, your session will focus on connection, softness, and the beauty of your real life at home. And truthfully I love photographing an “older” newborn – they’re so smiley and squishy. It’s totally worth it to grab photos even if you missed the recommended window. Whether your baby is 7 days old or 10 weeks old, I promise you won’t regret documenting them just as they are.

Why Morning Sessions Are Best
My newborn sessions almost always take place in the morning – typically starting some time between 8 and 10 am.
Here’s why:
That gentle morning light streaming through your windows wraps around you and your baby in the most flattering, natural way. You, your baby, and your home as it is. Perfection.

Maternity Session Timing (Don’t Skip It!)
While we’re going on about timing, let’s touch on maternity sessions.
My ideal window for maternity photos is 28–34 weeks. The belly has typically popped, you (hopefully) are feeling pretty great, swelling is at a minimum, and we can get it done before those final weeks start to set in.
Documenting this chapter before your baby arrives just adds another layer of depth to your story. It allows you to look back and remember how it felt waiting for them and all those emotions.
Capturing This Season With Intention
Hopefully by now, you know my approach is simple and natural. No heavy props. No complicated posing. Just your family and your connection.
This stage passes in a blur. The tiny fingers. The way that baby fits perfectly on your chest. It’s unfairly gone before you even realize it.
Choosing the right timing ensures we capture it in the most peaceful, authentic way possible.
If you’re expecting and looking for a Cincinnati newborn photographer who focuses on all the small details AND newborn safety, I’d love to help you plan a session that feels effortless and true to your family. As always, feel free to reach out HERE and let’s capture this beautiful chapter.
