As a Cincinnati family photographer, my goal is always to capture connection and emotion in a natural way. I have two outdoor family sessions that both tell your family’s unique story and I wanted to take a little time to explain the difference between the two packages.

I have a hard time saying which one is “better” for you, it’s more so which one is going to help capture the story you want to tell.

Some families want something quick and simple strictly just to update their yearly photos. Others want time to slow down, be more intentional with their time, and let the moment unfold naturally. That’s exactly why I offer two different session types: The Novelette and The Unscripted Narrative.

Both are centered around natural light, storytelling, and capturing your family as you guys are authentically – just with different paces.

The Novelette

Think of The Novelette as short and sweet.

These sessions last 15/20 minutes and take place outdoors about two hours before sunset. I usually try to stack my Novelettes before one of my booked Unscripted Narrative sessions.

They’re quick, relaxed, and perfect when you want beautiful images without committing to a full length session.

The Novelette is perfect for:

• Couples
• Families up to 4
• Grandparent sessions
• Mommy & Me or Daddy & Me moments
• Just the kids

Even though the session is short, the goal is still the same: capturing genuine connection and natural moments using light, movement, and emotion.

It’s a simple, meaningful way to document this season of life.

The Unscripted Narrative

The Unscripted Narrative is where we truly slow things down.

Instead of a set timeframe, this session flows naturally. There’s no rushing, no watching the clock, and no pressure to get the perfect photo right away. These are kid led so once they’re done, we’re done. I would say my typical Unscripted Narrative session lasts around an hour but it totally depends on what we’re doing.

These sessions take place outdoors and we start about an hour to an hour and a half before sunset when we get the best light. Sunrise sessions are also an option for families who prefer quiet mornings or don’t want to keep the littles up too late.

The Unscripted Narrative is ideal when:

• Your kids need a little extra time to warm up
• You want to capture an activity together (walking trails, playing, exploring, etc.)
• You want your session to feel like an experience rather than a quick photoshoot
• You want a true storytelling session centered around connection and emotion

This session is about letting moments unfold naturally – laughter, movement, cuddles, chaos, and everything in between. I will guide you if you’re feeling stuck but usually after the first 10 minutes, everyone settles into themselves and we get all the magic.

The result is a gallery that feels less posed and more like true memories.

Which One Should You Choose?

If you’re looking for something quick and simple, the Novelette is perfect.

If you’d rather slow down and truly document your family’s story, the Unscripted Narrative is your best option.

Either way the goal is always the same: creating images that feel honest, emotional, and timeless.

Because it’s always the little moments (the ones that happen in between) are the ones that matter most.

And no matter what you choose, you’re getting me. I’m patient, calm, and the chaos doesn’t rattle me. I have two toddlers myself so yours won’t scare me. I have a great eye for the little details and creating comfortability within your session. You don’t have to worry about awkwardness or stiff vibes.
