If you’ve ever worried about how your kid will “behave” during a photo session, you’re definitely not alone.
Will they listen? Will they smile? What if they refuse to cooperate?
Let me go ahead and take some of that worry off your mind right now…I don’t need your child to put on a whole performance for me.
Like not at all.

Your Child Doesn’t Need to Smile, Pose, or Even Like Me
This might surprise you but one of the most important pieces of my approach as a Cincinnati lifestyle photographer is that I don’t even really expect your kid to be good during your session. And I mean that in the best way possible.
Your children will never have to:
Because when it comes down to it – real connection doesn’t come from forcing it.
Some kids are shy. Some are wild. Some are slow to warm. Some want nothing to do with a camera.
All of that is welcome here.
My daughter is shy and gives of all the black cat energy while my son is friendly and gives off the golden retriever vibe – I truly wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m used to dealing with both on a daily basis so there’s nothing your child can throw at me to rattle me.

What a Child Led Family Session Actually Looks Like
Instead of directing your child every single step of the way, I follow their lead.
That might look like:
There’s no plan or shot list they have to follow. I pick up on their cues and comfortability and we run with that.
Your session becomes less about getting the shot and more about observing and documenting your family exactly as you are in this season.
Because that’s where the magic lives.

A Safe, No Pressure Environment for Your Family
When kids feel pressure, they shut down. When parents feel pressure, it’s stressful. When the stress takes over, everyone’s just done. Kids pick up on parents’ stress and it just turns into a mess.
So I’ve built my sessions to feel:
You don’t need to apologize for your child. You don’t need to correct them for me. You don’t need to stress about how things look.
I don’t ever want perfect behavior. It’s not real and it’s not true. I’m here for real connection and emotion.
You Don’t Even Have to Look at the Camera
Some of the most meaningful images happen when no one is looking at me at all. They happen when you ignore me and forget I’m even there.
I love the in between moments.
You’re laughing with your kids, pulling them in close, brushing the hair out of their face, and holding onto them while they cling to you. Those are the in between moments that will matter more than any perfectly posed photo ever could.

Let Your Kids Be Kids
Your child doesn’t have to put on a whole performance.
They’re a whole person with feelings, moods, energy, and needs that change at the drop of a hat.
And they deserve to be photographed in a way that honors that.
So during your session, I’ll never ask them to be anything other than who they already are.
Messy. Playful. Shy. Loud. Curious. Emotional.
Whatever it is, it’s worth documenting.

The Result: Photos That Actually Feel Like Your Family
When we remove all of those expectations, something really beautiful happens:
You relax.
Your child relaxes.
And what unfolds is real.
Not forced smiles.
Not stiff poses.
But connection, personality, and moments that actually feel like you. We get to document the memory, not the poses.
