If you’ve ever thought about booking a family or newborn session with a Cincinnati lifestyle photographer but stopped yourself before hitting send on the inquiry I promise you are definitely not alone!

Recently, I asked a question on my Instagram stories…what’s your biggest stressor when you think about booking a photography session?

And the answers I got…

  • Not vibing or feeling comfortable with the photographer
  • What do I wear and what if I don’t feel comfortable wearing what I picked out earlier
  • My kids being feral jerks
  • What I’ll look like in them or if there will be good photos of my kid
  • My husband hates photos

And if you want me to be totally honest here – those are all valid and huge concerns. Especially at my price point. When you’re investing in something like this, you want to feel great about it from start to finish.

So I want to walk you through what this actually looks like when you work with me because it’s probably a lot different than what you’re thinking…

A More Comfortable Kind of Cincinnati Family Photography Experience

As a Cincinnati newborn and family photographer, connection matters just as much to me as the actual photos.

Before you ever step in front of my camera, we talk.

Not in a formal, stiff way but in a way that helps you feel like you know me and I know you. Because if you don’t feel comfortable with me, none of the rest of this works. I have great questionnaires where I ask questions to help me figure out your overall vibe and personality, what you expect out of your session, and just some details about you and your family that really help set the tone. We go through all of that stuff beforehand so I know how to approach your session.

You find out fairly quickly if we vibe or not. We pretty much make sure of that before your session ever even happens.

“What If I Feel Awkward or Stiff?”

Not gonna lie here – you probably will BUT just for the first few minutes.

Almost everyone does.

But here’s the thing…I’m not going to stand you in perfect light and tell you to smile at me.

I’ll guide you into simple, easy, natural movement. I’ll give you something to do and not just a way to stand and pose.

Hold your baby. Pull your toddler in close. Kiss the top of your oldest’s head. Walk, sway, sit, breathe, soak it all in.

And somewhere along the way, you stop thinking about what to do with your hands and just start being with your people.

That’s when everything softens and the magic happens. Always.

“What If I Hate the Way I Look?”

This one comes up a lot. And it’s usually tied to something a little deeper…

You’re freshly postpartum.
You feel bloated.
You don’t feel like yourself yet.
Or you’re worried that no matter what, you just won’t like how you look.

I’m not going to pretend like I can fix all of that with a camera. Or that I’ll photoshop you into what you wished you looked like.

But I will say this…

You don’t have to look perfect to look beautiful in your photos.

I focus on connection first. Always. The way your baby settles into you. The way your arms wrap around them without thinking. The way your family fits together right now. The smile your partner gives you.

And I’m not afraid to guide you in ways that are flattering, natural, and never forced.

You’re not being put on display. You’re being documented with care.

“What Do I Even Wear?” (And What If I Don’t Feel Good in It?)

I definitely won’t be hanging you out to dry here. I don’t expect you to come to your session with perfectly curated outfits. I’m here to help – use me and my advice!

I help guide wardrobe in a way that feels simple and flexible and not overwhelming. We go over color palettes, adding in textures and patterns, and working with what you feel best in anyways.

And more importantly… nothing about your session is never so structured that it unravels just because you’re not “feeling it” that day.

If something doesn’t feel right, we adjust.
If you’re not loving an outfit, we pivot.
If your body feels different than you expected, I promise it’s okay.

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s comfort.

I work WITH you to find something you feel comfortable in. If the day of you totally change your mind, let me know and let’s fix it. My goal is to always make sure mom is comfortable and confident in what you’re wearing.

“My Husband Hates Photos”

Same girl, same.

I hear this allllll the time.

And almost every time, the same thing happens…
They come in expecting to just power through it and they actually leave saying – that wasn’t too bad.

Because I’m not asking him to perform either.

There’s no pressure to smile at the camera or act a certain way.

He gets to just be with his family. Play with his kids. Stand close to you. Exist in the moment instead of feeling like he’s doing something wrong.

That shift makes a big difference.

“What If My Kids Are Wild?”

They probably will be.

And that’s not something I need you to fix before your session.

I love a feral kid because the sessions fly by and I get to include SO much variety and beauty in your final gallery.

Your kids don’t need to behave perfectly to get meaningful images.
They don’t need to sit still.
They don’t need to listen the entire time.

Some of the most beautiful moments come from the in between – all the chaos, the movement, the way they come back to you.

I work with your kids, not against them.

“What If I Spend All This Money and There Aren’t Any Good Photos?”

This is the quiet fear underneath a lot of the others, especially when you haven’t worked with me.

You’re not just investing money – you’re trusting me (someone you haven’t worked with…yet) to capture something different than the photographers you’ve used in the past.

And that matters.

I approach every session with intention. I’m not waiting for perfect conditions…I’m watching for real moments, real connection, real emotion.

That’s what creates images that feel like yours.

Not just “good photos” but the ones that hold actual meaning.

What You’ll Walk Away With

Not perfection.

Not stiff smiles or perfectly behaved moments.

But instead…something MUCH better.

Images that feel like your real life.
Your real connection.
Your family, exactly as they are right now.

The kind of photos that bring you back to this season years from now.

If You’ve Been On the Fence

If you’ve been looking for a Cincinnati lifestyle family or newborn photographer but keep hesitating because of all the “what ifs” that run through your head…

I hope this gave you a little clarity and maybe a little relief.

Your session doesn’t have to feel stressful to be meaningful.
And you don’t have to have everything figured out before you book because that’s part of my process. It’s literally why you’re paying to have me as your photographer.

If you’re drawn to a slower, more natural, kid led lifestyle photography session in Cincinnati, I’d love to walk through it with you.

You can reach out here whenever you’re ready. 🤍
