If you’ve landed here and you’re searching for a Cincinnati newborn photographer, I’m sure you have a few questions like…

How is this actually going to go?
What if my baby cries the whole time or doesn’t cooperate?
My house is so small and definitely not magazine worthy, will my home work?

I’m going to cover all of those but I need you to know right off the bat – my sessions are designed to feel calm, flexible, and completely centered around your baby and your family as you are right now. Not some perfectly posed version of you in a perfectly designed, ginormous home.

You booked! Now what?

Once you book me as your Cincinnati newborn photographer, I’ll send over confirmation and a contract within 48 hours. We’ll tentatively schedule your session for 2 weeks after your due date so I can at least get you on my calendar.

Now timing. I use 2 weeks after your due date as a general timeframe – babies are usually pretty sleepy, they still have the wrinkly, furry skin, you’re feeling a bit better, and it gives you some time to settle. The two week date is just a guideline, it’s not a strict rule.

If you’re looking for a more raw, real newborn session – we’ll bump it up and shoot within the first week of baby’s birth (around 5 days). If you want your baby to be a bit more filled out, we’ll push it back to 3/4 weeks. There’s truly no wrong time, it just depends on your preferences and what you hope to capture! I’m happy to talk this through with you – your baby is a newborn for 12 weeks so you have plenty of time.

Once we have your date set, keep me in the loop and let me know once you’ve delivered. If you go pretty early or you still haven’t delivered by your due date – shoot me an email or a text so I know and we’ll adjust the date if needed. I typically check in within 10 days of our date just to make sure.

It’s also important you know that if your baby spent time in the NICU, if postpartum felt overwhelming, or if life just didn’t go as planned…you didn’t miss your chance for photos. We can easily document baby at any given stage <3

Planning your session

While we wait, we plan. You don’t need to stress about what to wear. I’ll help you coordinate outfits for the whole family so everything feels cohesive but still true to you.

Neutrals and earth tones photograph beautifully.

I LOVE adding textures and patterns for depth.

And you don’t even need to think about baby because I offer access to my newborn closet, so you don’t need to buy anything extra just for photos.

The questionnaire

About 3 weeks before your session, you’ll get a questionnaire. This is where we really plan the vibe and overall feel for what you’re wanting to capture. This is when I learn about your story, your family, and all the things that mean so much to you.

We’ll plan your session based off your answers. Want to capture your morning routine with a newborn? Bath time? Or just relaxing and taking in all the newness of bringing baby home? I got you! I love the ideas people bring to me but I’m also so happy just capturing you as you are loving and snuggling that sweet new babe.

This is also where you can set boundaries. The questionnaire is the perfect space to let me know what rooms are off limits in your home, if you want nursing/feeding photos, what I can share from your session, and anything else you want respected.

All the tips – so you can feel prepared and relax

A few days before your session, you’ll receive an email packed with helpful tips – everything from how to keep baby comfortable to what the flow of the session may look like. I’ll confirm your address and our meeting time and make sure everything is good to go!

Ok now the house…

Please know I never expect to walk into an immaculate, magazine ready home for a session, especially after giving birth just days before. I’m not the least bit worried about what your home looks like. I typically just ask for an area to shoot in near a window and a cleared bed if at all possible – outside of that, I’ll adjust. I’m not afraid to ask if we can move items or furniture to make it work. The last thing you need to worry about is having a perfectly clean and decluttered home.

We go wherever the light is. So while you may have a favorite room in your home, if the light isn’t there we may have to move to a different room. You’d be amazed how many newborn sessions I shoot in a dining room.

It’s finally session day…

This is the most important thing to know:

Your session is completely baby led.

As a lifestyle newborn photographer, I don’t follow a strict timeline or force any poses. Sessions typically last anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours, but that is completely dependent on baby. I’ve had a newborn session that lasted around 30 minutes and one that was 2.5ish hours. They’re all so different, but typically I’m there around 90 minutes.

We take breaks when needed.
We feed when needed.
We pause when needed.

If your baby cries the whole time?
That’s okay too. We pivot and focus strictly on comfort. So maybe we won’t get babe’s details alone on a cozy blanket, but rather get them snuggled up in your arms. It’s not a big deal and it’s just as beautiful. Your baby wants your comfort and that alone is worth capturing. So crying is nothing to stress about.

You don’t need to feel stressed or embarrassed about anything. I’ve been there and I can handle it. I’m patient, calm under pressure, and genuinely comfortable working with brand new babies in all of their unpredictable moments. I just need you calm even if your baby is crying and screaming – calm mama helps baby stay calm and relaxed.

What We’ll Capture

Your gallery will include a big mix of moments – solo baby shots, baby’s sweet details, family moments together, individuals with mom and dad. If baby has older siblings, I love capturing the interactions and chaos. And yes, your sweet pets are also welcome to join. My sessions are always about connection and never perfection.

Newborn safety matters SO much

Your baby’s safety is always my top priority.

As a Cincinnati newborn photographer, I approach every session with care, patience, and an understanding of how to safely handle and position newborns. I’m never willing to risk anything for a shot.

While it can be so tempting to search for budget options these days, newborn photography is one area where experience truly matters. You’re trusting someone with your days old baby and that deserves intention, knowledge, and a calm, confident approach. I cannot stress that enough.

After your session: what happens next

Within 24 hours, you’ll receive a small preview of your gallery. It’s a cute little collage just to give you an idea of what your photos will look like. I know how excited you are to see your photos so I love doing this.

Your full gallery will be ready within 4 weeks, where you’ll choose your favorite images you’d like to download. You’ll have the option to upgrade and purchase your full album if you fall in love with more. Most people do upgrade so I’ve been offering discounted upgrades before your session (you’ll get the email a few weeks before).

When to book your session

Many families choose to book their newborn photographer early so they can:

  • Spread payments out over time
  • Secure availability
  • Feel one less thing to worry about after baby arrives

If you’re also considering maternity photos, I offer a bump to baby package that allows you to document both seasons while saving overall.

Documenting baby’s first year

I also offer a milestone mini package exclusively for newborn clients. It’s a simple, discounted way to continue documenting your baby’s first year because it goes faster than you think. You’ll receive information about this package a few weeks after your newborn session.

All in all…you shouldn’t be worrying about your newborn session

I try to make this process as easy as I possibly can. I don’t want you stressed or worried because I’m capable of handling anything thrown at me.

You don’t need a perfectly calm baby.
You don’t need a spotless house.
You don’t need to feel 100% like yourself yet.

You just need to show up.

I’ll guide you, support you, and take care of the rest so you can focus on what matters most…just being with your baby.
